      Glass Recycling

Recycling glass keeps it out of landfill, saves raw materials and energy, and cuts greenhouse gas emissions. We collect all types of glass, including from the construction and automotive industries.

      Glass Recycling

Why Recycle Glass with Quality Waste?

Recycling glass matters for the environment and for energy savings, and it is possible for a wide variety of glass types, including glass from the construction and automotive industries.

      Glass Recycling

      Why recycle glass?

      • Reduction of Raw Material Extraction: Glass is primarily made from sand, limestone, and soda ash. The extraction and processing of these raw materials are energy-intensive and environmentally damaging. Recycling glass reduces the need for these materials, preserving natural resources and reducing the environmental impact of mining and quarrying.
      • Lower Carbon Emissions: The production of new glass from raw materials requires significant energy, primarily from fossil fuels, leading to high carbon dioxide emissions. Recycling glass, on the other hand, uses considerably less energy (about 30% less), thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This is crucial for combating climate change.
      • Waste Reduction: Glass is non-biodegradable and takes thousands of years to break down in landfills. Recycling glass reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills, conserving space and reducing the environmental harm associated with waste disposal.
      • Energy Efficiency: Melting recycled glass (cullet) requires lower temperatures compared to raw materials, resulting in substantial energy savings. For every tonne of glass recycled, over 300 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions can be avoided. This energy efficiency contributes to lower production costs and reduces the industry’s overall carbon footprint.
      • Continuous Recycling Potential: Glass can be recycled indefinitely without losing its quality or purity. This means that recycling glass conserves energy not just once but repeatedly over time, creating a sustainable loop that significantly cuts down energy usage.

      Recycling across industries

      • Diverse Glass Types: The construction and automotive industries produce large amounts of glass waste, including windows, mirrors, and windscreens. These types of glass are often treated with coatings or mixed with other materials, making their recycling more complex. However, advancements in recycling technology now allow for the efficient recycling of these types of glass, ensuring that even specialised or composite glass products do not end up in landfills.

Recycling glass preserves natural resources, reduces energy use and lowers greenhouse gas emissions. By recycling all types of glass, including those from the construction and automotive industries, we ensure that valuable materials are reused rather than discarded. This approach not only benefits the environment but also drives economic growth and supports the transition to a more sustainable, circular economy.
